Alert Neighbors & Their Security Cameras Help Police Capture Thieves

I just learned about a break in which happened at 12427 137th Ave. E. on 29 Dec 2016 between 9 and 10AM.  The thieves broke a window in the dining room to get into the house.  They also broke into the workshop.

The police were helped by a landscape gardener and a neighbor of the homeowner supplying video from his security cameras and pictures of a red VW Jetta.  Unfortunately they were unable to make out the license plate number.  The neighbor noticed the car because it was driving slowly and turned into his driveway, possibly because his garage door was open.  The driver turned around when he noticed a person standing outside by her car.

Police were helped because the thieves left clear fingerprints on the victim’s outside window and sliding door.  The fingerprints were in the police fingerprint system. The victim’s alarm system helped alert another neighbor.

Police arrested Joshua Adam Kaelin and Michael James Taylor two weeks later.  Charges have been filed and a court date scheduled for 8 March 2017.  Unfortunately none of the items taken in the burglary have been found.

Wrong Side of the Road! – A Still Relevant much delayed post.

The post below got misplaced.  On the theory of “better late than never”, here it is.    A  recent survey has shown that the practice of “cutting the corner” still exist.

I was checking the Neighborhood Cameras on 19 Nov 2015 when I noticed two trucks coming around the blind curve at 11728 136th Ave E. on the wrong side of the road, entering our Neighborhood. The time stamps show that the first truck entered the Neighborhood at 2147 hrs. and the other at 2156 hrs. (That’s 9:47 PM and 9:56 PM for you civilians).

Yes I know that at night you supposedly can see lights coming from the other direction in time to get over into your proper line, but you are betting your life on it. Not to mention the lives of whoever you might run head on into. (All for a time saving of maybe 1/2 of a second.)

Please stay in your own lane when you are coming around the blind curve.  As far as I know we have never had an accident in the blind curve. Lets keep it that way!

Your cameras can help your neighbors too

There was an article on page 8A of the 21 Jan edition of the Tacoma News Tribune which shows that security cameras help your neighbors as well as you.  Burglars broke into a home in Fife Heights and stole 4 guns and a 250 lb safe which contained a Rolex watch, financial papers and identity documents. A neighbor’s security cameras showed a dark green BMW with dark rims parked outside the burglarized house.

This case illustrates what Dav and I have been trying to get across to our neighbors.  Your cameras help protect your home and they help protect the homes all around you.  The Bad Guys are going to think twice about entering a home when homes on all sides of it have cameras and their actions can be seen, and recorded, from several different angles.

More Crime around our Neighborhood

I was gone most of December and I find that the Bad Guys have been active around our Neighborhood.  I have received reports of several break-ins of various types near our Neighborhood. Two occurred in the Shawnee Ridge addition, one in Heather Hills and two just across 122nd St.  The two in Shawnee Ridge involved car prowls.  The one in Heather Hills involved a door being kicked in while the owners were absent.  One of the ones across 122nd, was a theft from a soft top jeep. The last, which I do not have a firm location on must have involved several people because I understand that a gun safe was stolen, and those suckers are heavy.

One of the car prowls was captured on CCTV, but unfortunately the video quality was not the greatest.  The one clear shot showed an individual in a hoodie, with a beard, who looked ever so much like Casey Neil Patrick who we believe took part in previous vandalism in our Neighborhood.

From the Architectural Control Committee

The Sunrise Terrace Architectural Control Committee thanks everyone who came to the annual meeting Oct. 11.  We enjoyed delicious treats, had a great time visiting, and learned some history about our neighborhood.  We met the real Jennifer, for whom Jennifer Court is named.  The committee reported on actions taken the past year.  Everyone is encouraged to greet their new neighbors and tell them about our directory and blog.  Please send their name, phone number, address and email to Kirk Hall kahalljr@comcast.net  so we can include them in our communication.  To save money we don’t use postcards any longer so will continue to keep in touch with the blog, web site and e-mail.

Because of recent questions about where people are in which Addition and which Covenant covers them, we are working on a compilation of the maps of each Addition and PDFs of the Covenants.  When completed they will be posted on the web site which hosts our Blog.  They will be downloadable and you will be able to access them. This is a work in progress and we will notify everybody when it’s done.

You are also encouraged to talk to your neighbors about driving slowly through our streets, removing trees that have the potential to fall on your house or a neighbor’s house, and cleaning the gutters and storm drains to avoid floods in the low areas.

Following the meeting the committee learned the Pierce County numbers to call for questions and to report concerns.  For roads it is 253-798-6000.  For traffic it is 253-798-8000.  We reported the alder tree which is leaning into 122nd between Military and 133rd and the hole in the county fence on 122nd just east of 133rd.  A county employee has already been out to inspect.

We look forward to seeing each other in the neighborhood and hope to see you at next year’s annual meeting.

Bear Stuff — Again!

Below are comments from Washington Fish and Wildlife.  Please check out the PDF mentioned as it has a lot of good information on Black Bears.  Here are some of the pictures from my cameras.

It will be important that the neighborhood tries to keep as many attractants secured as possible.. Even if only one house has something available the bear will come to your area.. You can send out the PDF on our website here: http://wdfw.wa.gov/living/bear.pdf that tells you what they are most attracted too. Fruit trees are some of their favorite things.. but garbage is by far the biggest attractant.

In addition to the Dark Green SUV (ASY7390) at least one of them came into the Neighborhood riding a motorcycle at 0413hrs, 7 July 2016 to do a little more stealing.

If you see them or their vehicle in the Neighborhood –CALL  911  IMMEDIATELY

Attack on Sunrise Terrace Camera Project

Please read the below and look at the pictures.  Be alert for this vehicle or this individual. IF YOU SEE HIM – DO NOT APPROACH HIM – CALL THE POLICE – HE IS ARMED WITH A KNIFE – DO NOT APPROACH HIMIT IS NOT WORTH YOUR LIFE –CALL THE POLICE AT ONCE.

The following is important information for all people in our community. It concerns damage to our Neighborhood Camera System by Bad Guys.

My second street camera was destroyed the morning of 6 July 2016 at 0600hrs by, I believe, the same individual who destroyed one of my cameras on 17 June 2015. He came walking down 136th Ave. E. turned down 117th took a wide circle around my camera on 138th Ave, Ct, E, and destroyed it.  He has obviously got a problem with me or he is setting up to rob the Neighborhood.  Checking the other cameras it appears that he also destroyed one of our neighborhood cameras at Dav Eide’s house (11728 136th Ave. E.), and that one cost us around $500.00. Thus far he has destroyed a $135.00 camera (2015), a $175.00 camera (28 June 2016) a $100.00 camera (6 July) and a $500.00 camera (6 July). He used a knife to cut through the cables on my cameras so he is armed and dangerous.

On 6 July we got some pictures of him, but he was hiding his face when he passed the cameras. I am certain now that the bad guy was working with a driver and that they were using a Dark Green SUV license number AYS7390.  That vehicle appears on both days when our cameras were destroyed (28 June and 6 July 2016).  On 28 June the vehicle came down 136th turned on 117th passed slowly by the camera I had trainer on 117th St E., circled around on 138th Ave. Ct. E. then turned up toward 136th Ave, E., where it appears that he parked the vehicle and the Bad Guy got out. He then walked down 117th St. E., staying to the side so the camera on 117th would not trigger, came around from the side and destroyed the camera.  On 6 July 2016 it appears that the vehicle made a pass along 136th St. E., doubled back and stopped long enough to let the bad guy out.  He came walking past the cameras at 11728 136th Ave E., and destroyed the D-Link (11728n136) at 11728 136th Ave. E. around 0600 hrs. Then I think he continued down 117th, destroyed my camera (at 11701 138th Ave. Ct. E.) and walked out past the 11728 136th Ave. E.  cameras again, to presumably be picked up by the driver further down 136th.  The times shown are a little off because of the difficulty of keeping all the cameras time synchronized.

This afternoon (7 July 2016) Dav and I found that the Bad Guy had come back at 0413hrs riding a motorcycle.  He came on Dav’s property and retrieved the connector box for the camera he had stolen on 6 July.  He removed the connectors and left the box down the street towards Military.  Alan Manning and I went to the Sheriff’s office and reported the crime.  The case number is 16-189-01173.

One of our major problems continues to be lack of support by many of our neighbors. If there were more cameras out there, in private homes, with at least one camera mounted so that it showed the street, we would be better off.  We need to be able to track the bad guys if something happens. The cameras don’t have to be connected to our Neighborhood network, but we need to know who to contact if a problem arises. As individuals we have to protect ourselves and our neighbors.

The Bear IS Back –Part 2

Bear scat has been sighted again in a heavily populated area bordered by 122nd St E., 136th Ave. E. and 138th Ave. E. in the attached photo. Its presence has been reported to Fish & Wildlife 1-360-902-2928 (option 2).
