Today my daughter received a call from BECU telling she was the victim of an attempted fraud and she must reset her password immediately. The calling number appeared to be from BECU.
The SCAMMERS are getting more sophisticated. These days you MUST check things out from a known good source before taking any action.
Being tech savvy my daughter immediately hung up and called BECU directly. BECU said they had made no such call and they had seen an increase in what is called “Phone Number Mirroring”, where the call is manipulated to appear to come from the number the caller desires, rather than the number actually being called from.
If you receive a call like the above, hang up and call the Bank, Credit Union, etc. directly. Do NOT give the the caller any information or do any action they tell you to. HANG UP IMMEDIATELY.
